Welcome to the newest edition of The Report!
This was one hectic week.
Never thought I’d be writing about Chinese balloons along with the Presidents State of the Union address, but here we are.
But I’m just happy to have you here with me today as we go through this crazy time together!
Let’s get into the news!
1.) A Record Setting SOTU!
Last night, President Joe Biden spoke in front of the world as he delivered his 2023 State of the Union.
It was setting up to be a potentially drama filled speech as many were calling on Speaker McCarthy to tear up his copy of Biden’s speech following the example of Nancy Pelosi during the Trump years.
Thankfully he didn’t do it as he posted on Twitter leading up to the speech:
It is kinda sad to me how we have to even have ask the question of just how petty we're wanting our elected politicians to be.
Anyway, going into the night itself, the speech was historic…not for any good reason though.
According to the New York Post, there were multiple lies sewn throughout POTUS's speech. Some were flat out ludicrous.
Quoting from the piece it says:
“But he had literally no overall theme, as he has no overall vision beyond his self-serving distortions and promises of more giveaways. In his best chance to reach the entire nation, our president basically showed America that there’s no there there except his trademark malarkey.”
Agreeing with this stance, there was no real mission statement or overall theme in the speech itself. Comparing it to the President’s past speeches, it felt very similar as he rattled off achievements of his administration and attacked Republicans as shown below:
This doesn’t really look like the “unity” Biden had said that he would bring to Congress. For someone so willing to work across the isle, he has some more working to do.
And that includes outside the halls of Congress. As NBC reports, the polls aren’t looking all that great for the President.
For someone who secured just about a 60 percent approval rating at the beginning of his office, he is sitting now at around 45 percent. And the numbers get worse.
Quoting from NBC:
“Just 32% say they are enthusiastic or comfortable with Biden running for president in 2024, while a combined 67% said they either had some reservations or were very uncomfortable with the idea.”
Similarly to President Trump, Biden has an image problem that is not being addressed. Whether it is his legislation and its impact on the economy or the endless gaffes, people are not confident in his ability to run the country.
And with all the things that he could’ve talked about last night, he made the interesting decision to avoid mentioning China at all.
Speaking of which…
